• Ages: 14–18 years old
• Schedule: 4-year commitment for boys in grades 9–12
Founded in March 2022, Hermosa Hermanos is a group of mothers and sons who are committed to local service in their community and partner with non-profits or community service organizations that address different needs and issues. The organization’s mission is enriching the lives of Hermosa Beach young men through volunteerism and community involvement with the support of their moms, with a goal of gaining a deeper connection to Hermosa Beach and the local community while developing a lifelong love of service. Hermosa Hermanos is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in California that aims to provide interesting and rewarding volunteer opportunities for high school boys representing multiple high schools and to meet with members of the local non-profit community. As of January 2026, participants have completed 9,524 service hours and served 115 non-profits.
Hermanos that reach their grade level hours at the end of each year are recognized with a certificate of completion, and there is a special event in their senior year honoring Hermanos for completing 115 hours. Participants may work toward earning the President’s Volunteer Service Award, and Hermosa Hermanos has received PVSA Group and Individual Commendations, as well as recognition from Senator Ben Allen, Senator Ted Lieu, the City of Hermosa Beach, and Leadership Hermosa Emerging Leader. Participation in programs is subject to an annual Liability Waiver.
Hermosa Hermanos is run by mothers and female mentors who partner with their sons, and through activities the boys learn how to manage their time, communicate effectively, belong to a group, and meet with members of the local non-profit community. The leadership team includes Co-Directors Lynn Garofalo-Wright and Tracy Barr, multiple Class Leaders for the 2026–2029 classes, and a Board of Directors with roles such as President, Vice President, Board Treasurer/VP Finance, Co-VP Philanthropy, Co-VP Events, Co-VP Technology, Co-VP Operations, Co-VP Membership, Co-VP Membership Admin, and Board Secretary/VP Communications. Founders are listed as Liz Tyndorf and Katherine O’Connor. Lynn Garofalo-Wright is a healthcare strategy and operations improvement executive at Kaiser Permanente, and Katherine O’Connor’s education is in child psychology and early childhood education and she is currently being certified as an Education Therapist for early learners.
