South Bay Music Together is licensed by Music Together LLC, and Music Together is described as an internationally recognized early childhood music program for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, kindergartners, first and second graders, and the adults who love them. The program states that Music Together classes are based on the recognition that all children are musical and that all children can learn to sing in tune, keep a beat, and participate with confidence in the music of their culture, provided that their early environment supports such learning. The program describes its mission as bringing the joy of music to families across the South Bay communities of Southern California and offering a comprehensive music program through open expression, exploration, and play.
The leadership team includes Cristina Davis, Director and Teacher, and Leslie Johnson, who is described as formerly director and creator of South Bay Music Together along with Julie Millar. Cristina Davis has been a registered Music Together teacher since 2012, has been Co-Director of South Bay Music Together since 2013, and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music, vocal performance, from Loyola Marymount University. Leslie Johnson has been a registered Music Together teacher since 2011. Other teachers include Jenna Glick, who holds degrees in Vocal Performance and Child and Adolescent Development; Michelle Barrios, who has been a registered Music Together teacher since 2013, has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Loyola Marymount University, has over 10 years of experience working with children and teens including work as a tutor and after school coach, and has been a music teacher since 2006 teaching piano in elementary schools and privately; and Paola Mazon, who has been a registered Music Together teacher since 2019, has a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications from Ecuador, is pursuing a degree in childhood education, and has been singing and playing the guitar for over 20 years. Paola is described as loving to incorporate Latin rhythms and a bit of Spanish into her class routine.
South Bay Music Together notes that Music Together was first offered to the public in 1987. The program states that it serves families in Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Torrance, Rolling Hills, and Palos Verdes and that it has a sister location called Marina Music Together. The program offers outdoor classes at parks in Hermosa Beach and Rolling Hills Estates and indoor classes at multiple locations including community centers, a preschool, and a space connected to a children’s gym. Summer registration is described as open, and free demo classes are available by contacting [email protected]. For Saturday morning classes in Rolling Hills Estates outside Kelly's Korner, families are instructed to park in the New Horizon Child Development Center next door, using the entrance on Rolling Hills Rd either by the dumpster on the gravel road or in marked spots, and not to park in the Kelly's Korner lot.
