About

Camp Surfbird includes chaperoned festival activities, experiences just for campers, and two full-day festival field trips, one pelagic and one land trip. Campers spend time expanding birding skills, learning about the natural history of coastal California, and meeting other young people with similar interests. The program also includes beach activities on the evening of March 1.

• Ages: 13–17 years old
• Schedule: February 27–March 1, 2026, with lodging for 2 nights
• Price: Camp cost is $750 per child, with a $150 non-refundable deposit due at the time of registration

Campers explore careers and opportunities in ornithology, research, and conservation while networking with leaders in the field. Working together, San Diego Bird Alliance and the American Birding Association have planned this weekend for young birders to gather and explore the region with like-minded peers. Daily transportation for festival activities and meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are included, and scholarships are available. Twin-sized sheets or bedding and towels are not included, and campers traveling by air or train must be able to travel independently but are picked up in San Diego by Camp Surfbird staff and transported to camp. San Diego Bird Alliance has earned a Candid Platinum Seal of Transparency, and its mission is: “Together we defend our region's birds, unique biodiversity, and threatened habitats through advocacy, education, and restoration.”
