About
Irvine Music Festival is a non-profit, intensive summer classical music program that includes masterclasses, specialty classes on topics such as music entrepreneurship, video game music, instrument maintenance, orchestral auditions, and professional life, as well as orchestra, chamber music, and solo intensive instruction. The program also offers a Musician Fundamentals Program for young strings participants that focuses on practice methods, focus and discipline while they develop solo and orchestral or chamber repertoire, along with an Education Package that provides college counseling and recommendations for college-bound participants. Instruction includes one-on-one lessons with faculty and chamber music in small groups with regular coaching, and features an additional virtual component that allows participation by faculty and guest artists from around the world.

The festival offers a variety of specialty classes beyond those found at a traditional music festival, merit- and need-based financial packages, and a short yet focused term that allows time for other summer experiences. Alumni include concertmasters and principal players in school and youth orchestras, international and regional competition winners, and students accepted to top universities and music programs. For the Musician Fundamentals Program, Suzuki Books 1–3 are a general guideline for string players, and at least one year of playing or study is recommended.
