Project Scientist is a national education nonprofit delivering STEAM experiences to underserved and marginalized girls* ages 4–18 and is dedicated to serving children of all gender identities and expressions. Since it began in founder Sandy Marshall’s backyard when she could not find a STEM program for her daughter, Project Scientist has grown over 10 years and has provided nearly 160,000 STEAM education experiences, impacting over 30,000 girls across the United States and Mexico. The organization has partnered with leading STEM companies to host over 380 expeditions for students and has engaged over 1,800 women STEM professionals. Project Scientist centers community by collaborating with girls, educators, and partners, and focuses on removing barriers and centering those furthest from opportunity. One student, Grace, age 10, described it as “a big opportunity for girls… it makes you think more about earth and about how many things you can change through science.”
