About
LCFCC Junior Golf Programs and Camp Cañada include PGA Junior League Golf, Golf Camp Cañada, the Birdies junior golf program, Junior Weekly 1 hour group instruction, Girl Power Golf, and participation in the Junior Golf Association. The programs also connect with the High School Invitational golf tournament for older junior players.
• Ages: 4–13 years old
Golf Camp Cañada states that it is all about having fun while learning the lifelong sport of golf and uses games, shorter distances, and fun incentives to encourage each youngster’s athletic abilities and to teach skills and behaviors essential to success on and off the golf course. Birdies is described as a junior golf program for ages 4–7, with clinics that cover fundamentals of the golf swing, putting, chipping, and golf course etiquette, and instructors who state that golf has to be fun and that grouping kids is important to their development. LCFCC’s PGA Junior League Golf program is open to boys and girls ages 13 and under, requires no golf skills to join, involves relaxed competition within the Pasadena League, encourages mentorship, builds confidence, teaches sportsmanship, and gives youngsters the opportunity to advance to the All-Star Team during the postseason. Girl Power Golf is an innovative girls junior group created after noticing girls were not signing up in junior clinics, is specifically designed with girls ages 7 and up in mind, is designed and taught by a young female pro, and teaches golf in girl-only group clinics with fun events that make each session a go-to making-friends destination. The club states that lessons and clinics allow children and youth to get comfortable on the course and around the golf facility, have fun, learn lifetime skills, and provide for a future in the game of golf.
The Gilbert Dreyfuss Scholarship High School Invitational is open to all high school-age golfers in the greater Los Angeles area, and the winner of the boys’ division and the winner of the girls’ division each receive a $1,000 scholarship to use toward the college of their choice. LCF Country Club states that it is very proud of its youth development programs and uses this scholarship as a way of encouraging youth and the larger community of talented high school players to stay in the game. Girl Power Golf is specifically noted as being designed and taught by a young female pro. The leadership team connected to the club includes Scott Hamby, Assistant Golf Professional; Sara Quintanilla, Membership Sales; Joy Mijares, Special Events; and Randy Dreyfuss, Film Shoot Location Rental.
