California DanceArts Youth Dance Programs is directed by Artistic Director Aerin Holt and was established in 1987. For over 35 years, California DanceArts has been the premiere ballet school of La Canada Flintridge. The program provides certified instructors and a training syllabus from national ballet training organizations and expert dance institutions, and cross training is conducted by an instructor certified in MPT-Placement Technique, Posture Alignment from Egoscue Motion Therapy, and Progressing Ballet Technique. California DanceArts is proud to include the AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE® National Training Curriculum, a 9-level program that incorporates elements of the French school, Cecchetti Italian School, and Russian Vaganova training methods.
The Youth Ballet Division upper intermediate and advanced Levels 3 through 5 are for experienced dancers ages 13 and older, and the Junior Ballet Division Levels 1 and 2 are for ages 9–12 with twice-a-week classes. Pre Ballet/Children's Classes are for children ages 3–8, Fairytale Ballet is for ages 3–5, and Swan Lake Camp and Flying Fairies Camp are for ages 5–12 and include performances, costumes, and crafts. The program uses small class sizes by design with very limited enrollment, offers tailored coaching and customized dance coaching, and includes a progressive graduated program that addresses the whole dancer, including basic health and development. Cross training and injury prevention use biomechanics, kinesiology, and training for injury prevention, and there are formal evaluations and preparation for Pointe work, with children not placed on Pointe until specific physical qualifications are met.
Instruction includes French ballet terminology and dance history, including the origin of ballet terms. Students in the Core Program receive syllabus evaluations and assessments with periodic examinations, along with graduation awards and placement into the next highest level of training. California Contemporary Ballet is the resident company at California DanceArts and features a unique choreographic blend of classical, contemporary, and theatrical dance works, with a professional company consisting of athletic ballet and contemporary dancers, modern dancers, gymnasts, and aerialists. California Contemporary Ballet seeks to increase dance awareness and continues to establish a youth division within its organization.
California DanceArts states that it seeks to make a positive contribution in the lives of its students by providing progressive dance education of the highest caliber, utilized to develop, nurture, encourage, and motivate students in the pursuit of their artistic goals, aspirations, and dreams. One testimonial notes that “They train each student with the belief that they can and will become accomplished. It’s that kind of reinforcement that gives the students self-confidence and pride.” The class studio has easy freeway access, and the program is now enrolling 2023/2024 classes.
