Community Center Preschool Summer Camps include activities such as arts and crafts projects, games, story time, sensory exploration, cooking, science projects, gardening, animal visits, and fun in the sun water activities. Campers also take part in weekly Music & Movement classes with instrument exploration, as well as dance, music, ceramics, and sports classes. Manipulative toys, creative experiences, group time, floor toys, blocks, paints, play dough, sand, and yard play are offered on a daily basis.

• Schedule: Sunshine Days Summer Fun Camp meets Monday–Friday from 9:00 am–12:30 pm in June and July, with optional extended care until 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm; Camp Runamuk offers Monday–Friday options from 9:00 am–3:00 pm or 9:00 am–5:00 pm, with early drop-off by request from 8:30–9:00 am
Sunshine Days Summer Fun Camp offers themed weeks, with past themes such as Hawaiian Vacation, Knights & Princesses, Camping in the Great Outdoors, Pirates and Mermaids, Jungle Safari, and Garden, Bugs and Insects. Sunshine Days Summer Fun Camp is available for all 4- and 5-year-olds in the community, and campers must be at least 4 years old by December 31, 2024. Registration for Sunshine Days Summer Fun Camp opens in March of each year. Camp Runamuk is described as a safe and action-packed summer camp environment that promotes plenty of physical activity and creativity, and campers must be 5 years old by the first day of camp. Registration for Camp Runamuk starts on February 3, 2025, at 9:00 am. After school, students can join Lunch Bunch to eat with friends, take classes at the adjacent Community Center Main building, and attend extended care until 3:30 pm.
The Community Center Preschool states that it provides a warm, safe, and nurturing atmosphere with a wide variety of age-appropriate activities that promote the social, intellectual, physical, and emotional aspects of learning, and that teachers create an environment for children to learn through active exploration and discovery. Preschool Director Danielle Caputo leads the preschool. The Community Center and Preschool have served the needs of thousands of children and adults for over 70 years, offering enriching, recreational, and educational opportunities for members of the La Cañada community and surrounding areas. The Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge was built entirely by volunteers in 1951, and the first Executive Director, Gilbert “Smitty” Smith, donated his home to become the Community Center Preschool a few years later.
