Pre-College Programs offers courses and workshops in areas such as Android app development with Java, front end web development with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, iOS app programming using Swift and Xcode, machine learning with Python, robotics with JavaScript, and digital circuit design. Students can also take classes in business management, marketing, Spanish-English translation and interpretation, wireless communications technology, and test preparation, as well as receive tutoring support services. Additional options include hands-on workshops in fields such as space exploration, marine biology, and computer science.

Each pre-college offering is structured around intensive exploration of a specific topic through lectures, discussions, and individual and group work. Academic Connections allows high school students to take academically enriching courses while conducting research alongside graduate students. Discover UC San Diego gives high school students the chance to earn transferable college credits through 100% online undergraduate courses. Futures programs focus on career pathways for high school students, and Research Scholars programs place students in researcher roles on projects with real-world applications. Sally Ride Science Academy provides STEAM workshops for students in grades K–12, and the Foundations for Future Scholars tutoring program serves TK–12 students with personalized academic support and lessons. Some high school pre-college courses, including Digital Circuit Design for High Schoolers and Machine Learning for High Schoolers, are A-G Approved, and pre-college courses are available in Live Online, In-Person, Online, and Hybrid formats.

Extended Studies states that its mission is to empower students to thrive and excel in academics and beyond. The leadership team for these programs includes International Student Services Director Stacy Warneke, Associate Dean and Executive Director Patricia Juza, ELI Program Manager Jonathan Reza, and staff members responsible for general information and applications, billing and payment, visa and immigration questions, housing and health issues, special projects, activities and events, university credit programs, and business certificates. UC San Diego Extended Studies notes a partnership with UC San Diego Athletics that allows postgraduate student-athletes to earn career credentials, and it highlights that UC San Diego's OSHA Training Institute Education Center has been a leader in occupational safety and health education for nearly five decades.
