Formed in 1969, La Jolla Music Society leads these Learning and Engagement efforts, which produce dozens of free events each year both at The Conrad and offsite in the community. For more than 25 years, La Jolla Music Society has operated the Community Music Center, providing free musical instruction and instruments to underserved students in Barrio Logan. The organization’s mission is to enrich the evolving cultural landscape of San Diego by curating a dynamic array of world-class performing arts programming, creating meaningful learning opportunities, and building connections between artists and audiences. The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center, which opened in 2019 and is owned and operated by La Jolla Music Society, includes the 481-seat Baker-Baum Concert Hall and the smaller cabaret-style space The JAI, and its acoustics were directed by Yasuhisa Toyota of Nagata Acoustics. The Baker-Baum Concert Hall is noted for its flawless acoustic and warm, lovely wood grid inner construction and has been described as “a lovely jewel box” and “one of the most beautiful halls we have played.”
