Mt. Helix Academy Summer School and Camps

Mt. Helix Academy Summer School and Camps is connected with Mt. Helix Academy, a private, co-educational, nonsectarian, equal-opportunity Trans K–9 preparatory school that uses evidence-based teaching methods and small class sizes. The school offers a traditional private school structure in which lessons make up the majority of each student’s day, with instruction that emphasizes reading, speaking and writing, mathematics, critical thinking and problem solving, and traditional content areas such as history and science. Students at Mt. Helix Academy also participate in visual arts, music, and performing arts, including professional-level musicals such as The Wizard of Oz, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Annie, Beauty and the Beast, and Seussical The Musical.

Mt. Helix Academy states that it is a positive, safe school that uses evidence-based teaching methods to challenge students and encourage their love of learning. The school reports that bullying is not tolerated and that it emphasizes students’ acquisition of skills in self-management, social interaction, and ethical conduct. Instruction includes small group teaching for basic skills so that students master skills before moving on, and the curriculum and teaching methods are described as being designed to help students acquire academic skills and knowledge at faster rates than their age-mates at other schools. Mt. Helix Academy offers the AIM HIGH Resource Program, which provides tutoring or more intensive instruction for students who need to catch up. Mt. Helix Academy has received the highest level of accreditation that is ever awarded by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Mt. Helix Academy supports active parent involvement, and its Parent-Teacher Group (PTG) is described as a major contributor to school activities, with parent volunteers providing energy to support the school. A Mt. Helix Academy student stated, “I really love my new school!
