About
Settles Tennis offers coaching, camps, events, tennis camps, college tennis prospect camps, and tennis tournaments. The program is led by Kathy Settles and Paul Settles.
Kathy and Paul began coaching at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in 2004 and have over twenty-five years of experience working with professional, collegiate, and junior tennis players. Kathy is a PTR certified professional. Paul is a USPTA P1 certified teaching professional and a graduate of the USTA High Performance Coaching program. Their work is connected with the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges tennis programs, and they host multiple USTA National Championship tournaments. Their stated mission is: “We love tennis and hope you will join us as we look to grow this great sport at the grassroots, recreational and competitive levels.”
Kathy and Paul have collectively won over 70 USTA National Championships and have earned USTA year end #1 rankings in three different divisions. They helped the CMS men's and women's programs win an NCAA DIII National Men's Title in 2015 and NCAA DIII National Women's Titles in 2018 and 2022. Kathy was named the 2019 Sun/Bulletin Girls Tennis Coach of the Year, and in 2021 her boys team won the Division I CIF Team Championship Title. In August of 2023, they both represented Team USA at the ITF Masters World Team Championships in Lisbon, Portugal, where both teams won a bronze medal. Kathy is currently ranked #2 in singles in the ITF World Rankings.
Settles Tennis is involved with Tennis in Our Schools (TIOS), a charitable organization in Claremont, California that supports high school tennis teams at Title 1 schools in Southern California with donations of tennis balls, uniforms, shoes, rackets, and other equipment. One testimonial from 2019 by Cindy Enright, Athletic Attendant/Tennis Coach at Rancho Alamitos High School, thanks the program for providing new equipment and notes that the Rancho girls tennis team reached CIF, won two rounds, and achieved results that the school had not reached in a very long time.
