Wee Care offers a preschool-style program where children take part in music, dancing, centers, and crafts, along with dancing and learning-based music. Daily activities include alphabet, color, and shape reviews, as well as a thematic unit based on the time of year or season. Children also use child-appropriate dining areas and spend time outdoors on a bike track riding tricycles, helping in vegetable gardens, climbing on a monkey-dome, pretending in a giant playhouse, and playing at water tables and sand boxes.

• Ages: 0–12 years old
• Schedule: Open 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Wee Care is a large family daycare with a preschool-style program in a residential home setting, with dedicated preschool and childcare areas and child-appropriate dining areas that encourage independence when feeding and washing. The outdoor environment includes a bike track, vegetable gardens, a monkey-dome, a giant playhouse, water tables, sand boxes, and shaded areas. The program is a Full-Inclusion/Mainstreaming program that serves children of all developmental ages and stages from infants through school age and promotes the use of American Sign Language throughout the curriculum. The preschool program uses a play-based curriculum that balances child-directed with teacher-directed activities, is primarily focused on whole-child development, has a 6:1 teacher/child ratio, and includes an open-door policy for parent involvement and input. Children in the preschool program often interact with children of all ages and learning spectrums, and the program notes that the majority of graduates excel at kindergarten entry testing and often at exit testing at the beginning of kindergarten, with less likely transition from preschool to kindergarten because they learn and prepare in a familiar environment.

Wee Care was established in 1999 by owner Mary Henry and is officially licensed through the state of California for up to fourteen children, with additional staff for support, under license # 198004787. The director’s undergraduate major is in Child Development, and she holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of La Verne in Diversified Education. The director was trained by the Program for Infant/Toddler Caregivers (P.I.T.C.) and is certified as an official Infant/Toddler Specialist, and the program notes staff with 24 ECE units and 12 ECE units, as well as deep expertise in early childhood development with on-the-job experience in this age group. Wee Care complies with the CDC’s vaccination schedule and welcomes subsidized families.

Wee Care states that its goal is to provide a high quality childcare experience and to promote developmentally appropriate practice and early learning. The program works closely with California kindergarten standards. Wee Care home daycare is a vendor for the San Gabriel/Pomona Regional Center, and the director has served as a council representative for San Gabriel Valley Parent Participation Nursery Schools. The program serves families from La Verne, San Dimas, Claremont, Rancho Cucamonga, Chino Hills, Pomona, and surrounding areas and is conveniently close to both the 10 and 210 freeways as well as the Metrolink.

Parent feedback shared by the program includes a parent who reports that their child’s early kindergarten assessment showed strong classroom performance and that they attribute the majority of this to what was taught at Wee Care, stating that the child was completely ready for kindergarten. Another parent reports that their daughter instantly felt comfortable due to Mary’s warm and welcoming nature and describes the daycare as a safe and loving environment with friendly families. A third parent, whose son has attended for four years, reports that Wee Care has established productive and consistent daily routines that nourish the child’s well-being, development, academic learning, confidence, independence, and socialization skills, and notes ongoing surprises at the language development, play skills, socialization, and educational tools the child brings home, describing an environment of structure, diversity, inclusion, and fun with many embedded learning opportunities for growth.
