Wado-Ryu Karate was founded in 1938 as “Shinshu Wado-ryu Karate-Jujutsu,” and is described as one of the four original styles of Karate, with roots in a blend of traditional Japanese Karate and Jui-jitsu. One of the primary differences of Wado-Ryu described by the program is its use of evasion techniques to avoid being hit while maintaining balance and the ability to strike back efficiently. The program states that Wado-Ryu is one of the most dynamic and diverse styles of karate practiced today.

USA Wado Ryu Karate Do Renmei is officially recognized by the IFWFO and is described as one of Southern California’s premium karate dojos. USA Wado-Ryu Karate-do Renmei has three locations in Orange County, California, with a main dojo in Laguna Niguel and other classes in Huntington Beach and Torrance.

The program’s stated mission is: “Think not of the Martial Arts as combat alone; it is also the study of peace and seeking the way of harmony.”

One testimonial from Aiko Mejia (Best Kumite Award) states that in four to five years of training at USA Wado Ryu, they learned discipline, self-defense, self-control, and how to control techniques, and that practicing Karate at this dojo improved performance in other sports, responsibility through learning katas, and sportsmanship, including learning how to lose with respect. Another testimonial from Leonardo Mejia (Best Kata Award) states that after doing Karate for 4–5 years at Wado Ryu Karate Dojo, they learned focusing, respect, self-discipline, self-defense, punching, kicking, and other techniques, and that learning Karate there can help with confidence, self-control, physical fitness, focus and concentration, and respect.
