Musical Theater Camp
The Performer’s Academy, 23721 Birtcher Drive, Lake Forest, CA 92630
About
Musical Theater Camps focuses on acting, singing, and dancing while campers work on scenes and songs from well-loved musicals. Each camp week includes high-energy rehearsals where campers rehearse an entire musical in just one week, with character development, vocal training, choreography, and a performance showcase for family and friends. Each week's performance is professionally filmed, and HD photos are taken and shared with families.
• Ages: 6–17 years old
• Schedule: Weeklong camps, 32 hours each, running Monday–Thursday 9:00 AM–3:00 PM and Friday 9:00 AM–5:00 PM
Each week features different material so campers who attend multiple weeks get a fresh experience, and camps can accommodate between 20–30 students per week with one performance per camp week. Every performer is asked to audition but not forced, with auditions taking place on the first Monday of camp, where students prepare 16 bars (about 30 seconds) of a song from the show or another musical, and parts are given out that same day, with every role described as significant and valuable. Campers are asked to be fluent readers, to bring a packed lunch and water bottle, to wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes, and to have appropriate dance shoes for rehearsals and the Friday performance, where they are asked to wear all black under their costumes.
Musical Theater Camps is part of The Performer’s Academy, which has been in operation for over 20 years and describes itself as Orange County’s Premiere Acting & Performing Arts Studio since 2003. The program is family-owned and operated and states a mission of nurturing students’ talents and fostering self-expression, with the motto “Dream, Believe, Become.” Classes are taught by experienced professionals, including film directors, writers, producers, and working actors, and all instructors hold Child Performer Services Permits (CPS) as required by the state of California. The Performer’s Academy also offers other classes for all ages, including Improv, On-Camera & Auditioning Techniques, Cold Reading, Scene Study, Vocal Training, Voice-Over, and Musical Theater, and holds the Parenting OC Readers’ Choice Award 2025 for Best Theatre Class.
Spring & Summer Camp 2026 are now enrolling, including a Spring Camp 2026 session featuring WICKED from April 6–10 and 10 different weeks of Summer Camp 2026. Policies state that all sales are final with no refunds, and that if a child is unable to attend, payment is credited toward future camps at The Performer’s Academy; charter funds are not accepted for camps but are accepted for regular weekly, monthly tuition-based classes. The leadership team includes Owner & CEO Brianne Wirsch and Camp Directors Harper O’Loughlin, Sofia Barrera, Samantha Mirabal, and Rani Shori.
Parent testimonials describe children returning to summer camps for several years, putting on shows in five days, making new friends, and staying in contact between sessions. Parents also report children coming out of their shell during performances such as Hamilton and The Little Mermaid, and mention guidance and support from staff members like Ms. Harper and Ms. Abigail. Multiple parents state that their children enjoyed the camps, had fun, and that they recommend the summer camps to kids interested in performing, dancing, and singing.
