DM Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy is led by Professor Dimitrios Mavraganis as Lead Academy Instructor, with Professor Mark Frasher as Kids Class Lead Instructor, Professor Nea Vanda Ouk as Adult BJJ Class Instructor, and Professor Vu Nguyen as Adult & Kids Class Instructor and lead coach for the Adult Fundamentals/Spartan Kids on Mondays and Wednesdays. Professor Dimitrios Mavraganis started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 1997 at the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Torrance under Grand Master Helio Gracie, Royce Gracie, Rorion Gracie, and Caique Elias, later trained under Rigan and Roger Machado, and trained with Pan-American champion Paulo Guillobel. He received his brown belt from Paulo Guillobel with Roger and Rigan Machado’s blessing and his black belt from Jiu-Jitsu master Rigan Machado in early 2006, and he currently holds the rank of 5th degree BJJ black belt. He has conducted BJJ seminars across the USA and Europe and has taught arrest and control seminars for the US Marshal’s, Orange County Sheriffs Department, FBI, and Correctional Officers at the federal prison of Terminal Island in Long Beach, CA. He has appeared multiple times in “Tapout” and “Grappling” magazines to demonstrate Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques and has won multiple IBJJF Pan American Championships and SJJF World Championships, is a multiple time California State and National Champion, and NABJJ Los Angeles International Tournament Champion in both his weight and the open class, and has won many Gi and No-Gi tournaments including Grapplers Quest Las Vegas and NAGA San Diego in the Gi and No-Gi Expert divisions.
Professor Mark Frasher began martial arts training in Judo in 1993 under John Ogden in Long Beach, served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne from 1995–1999, trained Kempo Karate starting in 2001, switched to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2004, and also trained Muay Thai kickboxing, MMA, and continued Judo. He received his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt in 2014 and his first-degree black belt promotion from Professor Dimitrios in 2020. His competition results include multiple first, second, and third place finishes from 2006–2014, including 1st Place at Copa Pacifica (2006, 2007, 2009), 1st Place at South Bay Open 2006, 1st Place at the California Pankration Championship 2007, and 1st Place at the IBJJF Long Beach Fall Invitational 2014 (Master’s 2 Brown Open).
Professor Nea Vanda Ouk enlisted in the United States Navy and worked in the airlines as an aircraft mechanic before starting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2012. He has been an instructor at DM Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy since late 2013, earned his DMBJJ Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt in the first quarter of 2022, and holds a Master’s degree of Business Administration in Aviation from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Coach Vu Nguyen wrestled throughout high school after being introduced to grappling in junior high through a school wrestling program, discovered Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2008, was promoted to Blue Belt after less than a year of training, received his Purple Belt in 2018, his Brown Belt in 2022, and his Black Belt from Professor Dimitrios in 2024.
