CYT Tri-Valley is part of CYT (Christian Youth Theater), which was founded in 1980 and is described as the largest youth theater program in the nation, with branches across the country training thousands of students a year. CYT is a non-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization whose mission statement is: “Christian Youth Theater develops character and creativity through quality theater arts training that brings families and communities together while reflecting Jesus.” CYT Tri-Valley produces six shows per year, including three Broadway-style musicals and three one-hour musicals. CYT Summer Day Camps offer a week of activities for ages 5–12, with camps described as jam-packed with games and activities that build performance skills, self-confidence, and teamwork, and typical camps include rotations through drama, dance, and music workshops and conclude with a showcase for family and friends. CYT Summer Camps are described as a fun and energetic immersion into the world of musical theater.

Instructors at CYT Tri-Valley are described as professionals, qualified in teaching and/or performing, who are experienced in the area in which they teach, trained in CYT methods of instruction, and who agree with CYT values and outcome goals. All CYT teachers have been background checked and adhere to the CYT Mission and Values. CYT states that class sizes are small and offer supervision both inside and outside the classroom. CYT Trifecta focuses on Character, Culture, and Craft, and stated values include: Character over competition; People over programs; Service over spotlight; Excellence over ego.

CYT’s Safety Scene program is a CYT National initiative that goes beyond background checks to prevent, detect, and respond to physical, emotional, verbal, and sexual abuse in CYT programming. CYT is committed to maintaining a community free of harassment, misconduct, or abuse of any kind, and states that no one will ever be turned away from CYT because of a disagreement concerning personal or political convictions. CYT does not demand adoption of any specific religious doctrine or personal convictions and will not permit promotion of individual political or social issues while participating in CYT programs. CYT is funded primarily through tuition, ticket sales, and outside contributions, and a toll-free telephone number and website have been set up for local CYT participants, volunteers, or employees to report concerns to a third-party firm, which reports concerns to CYT Inc Staff and Board of Directors; the National Child Abuse Hotline is referenced as an additional resource.

The CYT Tri-Valley Board of Directors includes Heidi Maher (Chair), Jonathan Rigsby (Vice Chair), Kristin (KW) Baer-Werder (President), Genoa Sperske (Secretary), Tim Putney (Treasurer), Pearl Lee (Board Member), and Valerie Shirk (Board Member). One CYT student, Katie Gilchrist, states, “I truly believe that God sent me to CYT as a kind of a Guardian Angel to help me with my task of overcoming anxiety.”
