About

Families With Young Children offers Tot Shabbat services, Tot holiday activities, playgroups, classes, special events, and an online forum. Families can take part in Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur Tot Services, Sukkot and Chanukah celebrations, and a Purim Shpiel and Carnival. The program also includes a rockin’ outdoor Pride Shabbat with music, shakers, puppets, dancing, playtime, challah, grape juice, and a family pizza dinner.

• Ages: 0–5 years old
• Schedule: Tot Shabbat and Pride and Pizza Tot Shabbat are offered on select Fridays in the early evening, with additional events announced at other times

Congregation Beth Am offers Families With Young Children programs to celebrate Shabbat and holidays together as a community and to enrich observances in families’ homes. Tot Shabbat services are for families with children ages 0–5 years, and older siblings are welcome. These services include singing, dancing, blessings, and a short story told by one of the rabbis. Holiday programming for young families includes multiple specific holiday events such as Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur Tot Services, a Sukkot Celebration, a Chanukah Celebration, and a Purim Shpiel and Carnival.

Beth Am and partner congregation Kol Emeth launched Jewish Baby Network (JBN) in 2013 to connect expectant parents and new families with babies up to age 2 to each other and to Jewish life, and Jewish Baby Network is now a program of JFCS. Jewish Baby Network offers welcome bags. The Seiler Family Fund for Youth & Young Families Engagement funds staff, scholarships, and programs that engage youth and families with young children in the community of Congregation Beth Am.

Participating families state that the program has introduced them to new friends, motivated them to incorporate Jewish traditions into their new babies’ lives, and provided resources to help navigate life as a new parent within the larger Jewish community.
