About
Athena Camps is an all-day summer camp for girls that combines sports, arts, and craft activities. The program also offers Safe Sitter certification as part of the camp experience. All activities are organized in an all-girl environment, with sports and arts integrated throughout the day.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Choose a Session (3 weeks) for the full Athena experience
Athena Camps was founded in 2011 and has been running for over 14 years as an all-girls, mentorship-driven camp. Over 12,000–13,000 girls have attended Athena Camps during this time. The program includes age-appropriate curriculum levels: Mini for campers entering grades K–2, Junior for grades 3–5, Middle School for grades 6–8, and a Coach in Training program for grades 9–12, with an opportunity to advance from camper to coach. Sports are used to build physical confidence, art is used to foster self-expression, and daily sharing circles are used to develop voice, with a focus on personal growth rather than competition. The camp maintains a 1:6 ratio for the youngest campers and has an all-female coaching staff.
Every coach is background-checked and extensively trained in youth development. Athena Camps is led by Aby Ryan, Founder and CEO. The program is accredited by the American Camp Association as an ACA accredited program. Athena Camps reports that over 14 years of parent surveys, 96% of parents recommend the camp.
Athena Camps states that its vision is to build communities of girls and women who nurture and uplift each other in order to have a positive lasting impact on the world. Parent feedback includes comments about the program being positive and empowering, the friendliness and caring nature of the coaches, and the use of a daily book and craft to support the camp theme. Parents also report that their daughters returned each day with a positive attitude about camp and about themselves, shared what they learned at home, and in some cases asked to return for multiple weeks or future summers. Several parents mention growth in confidence, friendliness, athletic ability, and strong reactions to the messages on friendship and the Coach in Training program. One parent notes that their child, who was initially hesitant to attend, became enthusiastic and wanted to sign up for more weeks, and another shares that their daughter has attended since kindergarten and looks forward to it every summer.
