Habonim Dror Camp Gilboa

Habonim Dror Camp Gilboa is a progressive summer camp and year-round community that uses a participatory, youth-led model. Campers take part in creative, challenging experiential learning that uses art, drama, role playing, and thought-provoking games, along with guided discussions that encourage them to reflect and learn to be open-minded and empathic. Everyone participates in cleaning and building, and in creating the Shabbat experience with their peers, and the community is shared to shape from the youngest camper to the oldest counselor.

Camp Gilboa describes itself as an empowering, intentional community where everyone is valued and cared for, and as a warm and inclusive community that values cultural, gender, and socioeconomic diversity. Its education is described as inspiring campers to create a welcoming environment where everyone feels seen, heard, and loved, and camp adventures are described as encouraging campers to be curious and think critically. The program presents itself as a vibrant, inclusive environment for all expressions of Jewish life, with understandings of justice and change rooted in Jewish values and tradition and a stated commitment to a vision of Israel as a progressive and democratic society. The organization states that campers emerge inspired, empowered, and equipped to make the world a better place. The year-round community is active in Los Angeles, San Diego, and the Bay Area.
