Camp Gilboa

Camp Gilboa is a progressive summer camp and year-round community where campers take part in creative, challenging experiential learning that uses art, drama, role playing, and thought-provoking games. Camp adventures are structured to encourage curiosity and critical thinking, and guided discussions are used so participants can reflect and learn to be open-minded and empathic. Community members all participate in cleaning, building, and creating the Shabbat experience with their peers, with a focus on shared responsibility.

Camp Gilboa describes itself as an empowering, intentional community where everyone is valued and cared for, with a warm and inclusive community that values cultural, gender, and socioeconomic diversity. The program uses a unique participatory, youth-led model and aims to create a vibrant, inclusive environment for all expressions of Jewish life. Its educational approach roots understandings of justice and change in Jewish values and tradition and is committed to a vision of Israel as a progressive and democratic society. The year-round community is active in Los Angeles, San Diego, and the Bay Area. The leadership team includes Joe, who serves as Assistant Director of Programs and Operations.
