About

Art Camp includes workshops inspired by LACMA’s collection, with tours led by a team of creative museum educators and artists. Participants create paintings, sculptures, mixed-media projects, drawings, prints, and kinetic sculptures while learning drawing, painting, mixed media, and collage techniques. The program also includes playful making and discovery and creative parlor games, and art materials are provided.

Art Camp is described as an Outdoor Summer Art Camp with workshops held in gallery spaces and outdoors, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis with limited space that can sell out; registration is only available online. Art Camp is designed for children ages 6 and older, and children ages 5 and under are not admitted; students must be the minimum age for their age group by the start of camp. Students are asked to wear comfortable clothes and shoes (no flip flops or skate shoes), bring a nut-free lunch and water bottle for the supervised one-hour lunch break each day, label personal items, leave toys and games at home, and refrain from using cell phones during camp hours. If a child has allergies or special needs, parents are asked to notify the Art Class Coordinator before camp starts, and families are asked to park and walk their child into the museum’s camp headquarters every day.

LACMA states that its mission is to serve the public through the collection, conservation, exhibition, and interpretation of significant works of art from a broad range of cultures and historical periods, and to translate these collections into educational, aesthetic, intellectual, and cultural experiences for a wide range of audiences. All education and outreach programs organized by LACMA are underwritten by the LACMA Education Fund, with major support from several named foundations, charities, and organizations, and L.A. County kids are eligible for discounted pricing through NexGenLA. LACMA also operates a gallery at Charles White Elementary School in MacArthur Park, where it presents exhibitions and programs in partnership with the school and surrounding communities, and it maintains regional, national, and global partnerships to share collections and programs and engage new audiences.
