In 1973, Dr. Don and Lois Verleur took in four teenage girls and opened their first home for children, which began the history of Olive Crest. Olive Crest states that it is dedicated to preventing child abuse by strengthening, equipping, and restoring children and families in crisis… One Life at a Time. Olive Crest describes its vision as a strong family for every child and lists core values of Grace, Truth, and Servanthood. Olive Crest states that it transforms the lives of children in crisis through the healing power of God, family, and community, and that it stabilizes and strengthens children and families in crisis, helping keep them safe and from entering the child welfare system. Olive Crest also states that it equips young adults for successful futures, helping them rewrite their story and overcome trauma from early childhood years, and that it transforms the lives of children and families through a continuum of care including preventing children and families from crisis, strengthening safe homes, equipping for life, and restoring strong families.
Olive Crest reports that it is expanding its programs and services in Los Angeles by adding two new facilities called the Children and Family Resource Center Campus and the Teen/Young Adult Apartment Homes. Olive Crest states that it makes available the teachings of Judeo-Christian principles while respecting the religious background of each individual and acknowledges the existence of a Creator through whom restoration and healing of a person’s life can be fully accomplished. The organization invites businesses, churches, and community groups to partner through sponsorships, donations, drives, or hosting family support events.
