Sensei Avi Rokah teaches every adult class himself, and he and his wife, Ruth, instruct the children karate classes together. The program teaches that technique defeats strength and skill conquers speed, and that more than a mere self-defense program, training in karate fosters mental toughness and emotional strength. Karate at Rokah Karate is described as a moving meditation and a way of life that stresses athletic, spiritual and character growth, with the view that the ultimate opponent is oneself and that it is about being the best one can be and improving every day. They state that karate is not only for top-level athletes, but for everyone, no matter their age or fitness level.
Sensei Avi Rokah holds 8th Dan, is a former world and five-time US champion, was 1994 World Champion, Five Time US Champion, and US National Team Head Coach, and serves as technical director of the World Budo Karate Association and president of the World Traditional Karate Federation. He studied for decades under Grand Master Hidetaka Nishiyama and is described as one of the most sought-after instructors in the world. Grand Master Hideteka Nishiyama holds 10th Dan, founded the Japan Karate Association and the International Traditional Karate Federation, and is described as Heir to Grand Master Funakoshi. Grand Master Gichin Funakoshi holds 5th Dan (the highest at the time), founded the Shotokan Karate style, and introduced karate from Okinawa to mainland Japan in 1922. The school states that only the purest form of karate is taught due to the lineage from Master Gichin Funakoshi through Master Hidetaka Nishiyama to Sensei Avi Rokah. Rokah Karate is described as a community as well as a welcoming, friendly and supportive venue in which to practice karate.
