About

Rokah Karate offers youth karate, adults karate, jiu jitsu, wrestling, and seminars, including children karate classes. The program also hosts international traditional karate seminars such as the International Traditional Karate Seminar in Kraków, Poland and the Budo karate seminar in Zielona Gora, Poland. Rokah Karate is a traditional Shotokan school where traditional techniques are combined with modern training methods, and karate is described as a moving meditation and a way of life that stresses athletic, spiritual, and character growth.

• Ages: 5–18 years old

Sensei Avi Rokah teaches every adult class himself, and he and his wife, Ruth, instruct the children karate classes together. This continuity of instruction provides pupils with a direct link to the founding of modern karate, and due to this lineage, the karate classes for all ages and levels teach only what is described as the purest form of karate. Rokah Karate states that technique defeats strength and skill conquers speed, and that in karate the ultimate opponent is oneself, with a focus on being the best one can be and improving every day. The program describes itself as a community and as a welcoming, friendly, and supportive place to practice, and it states that karate is for everyone, no matter their age or fitness level.

Sensei Avi Rokah is an 8th Dan, a 1994 world champion, a five-time US champion, and US National Team Head Coach. He is the technical director of the World Budo Karate Association and the president of the World Traditional Karate Federation, and he studied for three decades, including 27 years as a personal student, under Grand Master Hidetaka Nishiyama. Grand Master Hidetaka Nishiyama, 10th Dan, is the founder of the Japan Karate Association and the founder of the International Traditional Karate Federation, and is described as the heir to Grand Master Gichin Funakoshi. Grand Master Gichin Funakoshi, 5th Dan (the highest at the time), is the founder of the Shotokan Karate style and introduced karate from Okinawa to mainland Japan in 1922.
