About

VOALA Children & Family Services – Preschool Programs is part of a faith-based non-profit human services organization committed to serving people in need, strengthening families, and building communities. In this program, children receive educational experiences that are developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate. VOALA services for children place an emphasis on education, literacy, and health, and health-related services can include teaching preschool children to brush their teeth.

• Ages: 3–5 years old

Volunteers of America, the parent organization of VOALA Children & Family Services – Preschool Programs, was founded in 1896. The organization states a mission to encourage positive development, promote self-sufficiency, and foster independence. A key component of increasing self-sufficiency in VOALA’s services is attention to a person’s health care needs, and each service either links clients to appropriate health care services or provides these services as part of an overall supportive services package, which can include onsite clinical care. VOALA’s approach called Storywork asserts that negative emotions are the products of the retelling of stories learned about oneself, and that people are born with the capacity for a healthy, positive, and constructive outlook. The president of Volunteers of America Los Angeles is Bob Pratt. VOALA has also brought together over 20 organizations for a JOB FAIR & COMMUNITY RESOURCES event that focused on support and solutions for the needs of the unhoused community in Lancaster and surrounding areas.
