About

Velvet Noses Horse Ministry offers learning sessions with horses, student leadership training, community events and parties, and camp experiences. The program also includes rescue and rehoming of horses and a monthly Corral of Encouragement, where activities are led on the last Sunday of every month. Families are able to enjoy the ranch setting and a peaceful atmosphere while educational lessons with God’s love are given.

• Ages: 5–18 years old

Velvet Noses Horse Ministry connects horses with humans to educate, encourage and enrich the lives of both on the foundation of God’s love. Its vision is to provide a safe environment to care for and connect with horses, to begin to learn about them and learn from them, and to learn and grow through positive reinforcement and encouraging words to promote personal growth in a relational environment. The ministry also envisions a place for unwanted horses to be cared for, lovingly re-homed, and made an essential part of the ministry. They provide community services to SLO County that enrich the lives of local youth and families by connecting horses with humans to bring love, leadership, connection and positive self-esteem. They do not have the capabilities at this time to offer Hippotherapy or Equine Assisted Therapy. Velvet Noses Horse Ministry is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Founders Mike and Libby Zaiser have been passionately involved with educating children and adults about horses for more than 15 years and have had training in creating this ministry. Amy serves as a board member, ranch hand, and organizer for the ministry. Darla recently retired from working in the education field as a school psychologist and principal for a school serving students with special needs, and Miriam has a career working with children as a preschool teacher.

Parents and caregivers have shared that their children love the horses and animals at the ranch and enjoy their time there. One parent said her child keeps begging to go more than once a week and especially likes a horse named Luna. Another child called the instructor “the best horse teacher ever,” and another family shared that their child wrote “Best Day Ever!” on the calendar after a riding day.
