Alyce's Art Studio was founded in Manhattan Beach in 2011 by artist and educator Alyce Marie and has offered fine art drawing and painting classes, camps, and workshops for kids and teens since 2011. The program has taught fine art drawing and painting to more than 4,000 kids and teens. All instructors are degree-holding, gallery-exhibited working artists. The studio’s stated mission is to change lives with the power of art by providing high quality fine art education and instruction to children and teens in Los Angeles’ South Bay. The curriculum encourages self-expression while building on traditional skills and contemporary ideas and is offered in a respectful and supportive environment that the studio describes as conducive to higher education.
Since opening in 2011, Alyce’s Art Studio has instructed more than 1,200 students and has raised over $30,000 for charities and non-profits, including Free Arts LA and The Memory Project. The studio holds annual benefit events to raise money and awareness for Free Arts LA. Through its collaboration with The Memory Project, students create portraits as special mementos for children around the world who face daily adversity, and the studio has corresponded with children from Afghanistan, Syria, and Nigeria through this partnership. In 2019, teen students created a 10x10 foot mural at the Blue Butterfly Cafe in downtown El Segundo, and teen students have exhibited work in galleries across Los Angeles. Alyce’s Art Studio partners with local businesses and art galleries in Santa Monica, Hermosa Beach, Hawthorne, and Manhattan Beach to exhibit students' artwork. One testimonial the studio shares is: “I am a little child. I paint fearlessly, I hammer loudly, I build recklessly, I write originally, I sing rapturously. May man never quell my creativity, just refine it.”
