Musical Theater Camp includes group warmups, vocal technique, character development, performance building games, theatrical crafts, movement and dance, and group rehearsals. The camp focuses on honing performance skills through a wide variety of daily activities. The session culminates in a thematic student-written musical theatre performance for family and friends on Friday, July 24 at 3:30pm.

Coast Music, which runs Musical Theater Camp, is a family business founded in 2004 by Beth and Matt Rohde. Coast Music is fully accredited by WASC and offers private and group instruction to students of all ages and levels, as well as private music lessons, music classes, online music courses, and summer music programs. The organization states that it is dedicated to enriching lives through music education and that it combines hands-on instruction with performance opportunities, providing resources and support for each individual.

The leadership team includes Beth and Matt Rohde, along with Beth’s sisters Angie Deters and Marti Harris. Matt is a Los Angeles-based keyboardist, Musical Director, arranger and composer, was an Associate Music Director on Fox’s American Idol for more than ten years, and is currently an arranger for The Voice on NBC. Beth is a performer, educator and Music Director who earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Performance and Music Production from Berklee College of Music and a Master’s Degree in Jazz Studies from USC, and she is the current music director for College Audition Los Angeles (CALA). Marti has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan where she studied Musical Theatre and holds a Graduate Certificate from the Jazz Studies Department at USC. Angie is the General Manager and is in charge of operations as well as sales and marketing.

Coast Music describes its community involvement as giving students chances to experience live performance in front of an audience and giving the community chances to see student musicians on stage. Coast Music students appear at student recitals, open houses, band showcases, fundraisers, carnivals and jam sessions, and they perform at local clubs, festivals, beach concerts, public events, TV, film and theater.
