Spanish in Action offers Spanish immersion classes that use music, games, art, play, songs, movement, acting, storytelling, food tastings, and arts and crafts. The program also provides online classes and uses custom-designed activity books that reinforce each lesson.
• Ages: 1–18 years old
Established in 1986, Spanish in Action pioneered bilingual education in Los Angeles for children aged 1 to 10. The program offers immersive bilingual education for toddlers, kids, teens, and adults, with classes tailored by age and skill level. Small group Spanish immersion classes run year round, and private, semi-private, or small group online classes are also available. Lessons use practical vocabulary focused on conversation and integrate Latin culture through manipulatives, movement, art, games, culture, and Latin food tastings. Spanish in Action follows a Montessori-inspired philosophy with tailor-made lessons for different learning styles in a warm and nurturing learning environment.
Spanish in Action is led by Founder and Director Maria P. Lastra and is taught by experienced native teachers, each with over 20 years of expertise. Since 1986, it has been described as Southern California's leading Spanish language program for kids and has used Spanish Learning Resources with over 8,000 students. Its programs and materials equip children with impeccable speaking skills, immerse them in the customs of Latin culture, and help students achieve higher placement in junior high and high school Spanish classes. The program’s original songs are created in collaboration with Disney and Nickelodeon artists, and its learning resources mirror materials crafted exclusively for its own classes. Spanish in Action received the Best of 2025 Award for Outstanding Spanish Classes for Kids.
