Campsurf Surf and Beach Volleyball Programs offers a mix of surf camps, surf lessons, and beach volleyball programs, including Youth Volleyball Camps, Youth Surf Class, Adult Surf Class, and a Surf and Volleyball Combo. Participants can take part in activities such as Beach Volleyball private and semi-private lessons, volleyball camps, clinics and classes, surf camps, beginner and intermediate surf lessons, advanced surf clinics, group surf classes, boogie boarding, body surfing, basic surfing introduction, age-appropriate beach games, sand castle building, wave jumping, and a basic ecology lesson, with “Meet The Lifeguards” included when available. Campsurf also offers surf parties and large group lessons, including Private Surf Parties and Surf Parties & Large Groups, with equipment, instruction, shade, tables, and food provided for surf parties.

• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Youth Volleyball Camp runs Monday–Friday from mid-June to early August, Youth and Adult Beach Volleyball Classes are offered in one-hour blocks, and surf and beach camps run June through August with private surf lessons and surf programs offered year round.
• Price: $275 per week or $55 per day for Youth Volleyball Camp; $595 per week or $119 per day for the Surf and Volleyball Combo (9am–12pm surf camp and 12:30–2pm volleyball camp); Private Volleyball Lessons range from $70 for 1 person to $40 per person for 4 or more people; Beach Volleyball Classes cost $25 per class or 5 classes for $100.

Youth Volleyball Camps have an 8:1 instructor-to-student ratio, Surf Camp has a 4:1 student-to-instructor ratio, and Beach Camp has a 6:1 ratio. All surf lessons, surf classes, and surf camps include the use of quality surfboards and wetsuits, and are stocked in all sizes. Private Volleyball lessons are 1 hour long. The Surf and Volleyball Combo links a 9am–12pm surf camp with a 12:30–2pm volleyball camp.

All instructors are CPR and First-Aid Certified, and surf instructors are described as experienced surfers and watermen. The leadership team includes Chris Brown as Executive Director of Campsurf, founder Jim Miller, and Tommy Ostendorf and Mark Gerold, who took over operation of Campsurf, along with Chris Brown, one of Jimmy’s childhood friends who also took over the operation. Chris Brown is the President of the California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) and sits on the Nominating and Governance Committee of USA Volleyball.

Campsurf’s stated vision is to offer residents and visitors to the Los Angeles and Manhattan Beach areas a complete and pure surfing experience through proven teaching techniques with experienced, knowledgeable, and friendly local surf instructors and lifeguards. Its stated goal is to make surfing accessible, fun, and safe for people of all ages with the desire to ride waves. Campsurf is the official surf school provider for Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach and is the official surf school of both cities. In 2012, Campsurf formed a partnership with surf company Body Glove, which provides wetsuits and surfboards for use in surf programs.

Campsurf has been featured on ESPN, Fit TV, K-CAL Channel 9, the nationally broadcast CBS Morning Show, HD Net’s “Get Out!” and the nationally syndicated TV show “The Doctors,” and has been voted “Best Kids Camp” by its local community. Testimonials describe surf camp as a highlight of a summer term, note that a lesson with an instructor named Josh was a highlight for teenage sons, and describe instructors helping children regain comfort in the water after a previous bad experience. Other testimonials mention individual attention that helped participants get up and ride waves, clear explanations of safety elements and ocean terminology from an instructor named Stokes, and positive experiences with instructors Kyle and Chris.
