About
Center Stage Kids offers musical theater experiences where students learn and perform musical theater through classes, rehearsals, and productions. The program also includes a summer camp focused on musical theater.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Summer camp runs Monday–Friday from 6–8 PM, with the option to sign up for one week or all five weeks

Center Stage Kids was launched in 2006 as the area’s first children’s musical theater studio and teaches children the acting, dancing, and singing that goes into a Broadway-like production. It was founded by Modesto native, singing talent, and voice teacher Dawn Peterson, and in 2014 new owners Amy DeMoura and long-time Center Stage Kids choreographer Heather Vargas took over. In 2017, Center Stage Kids moved to a new location in Modesto that includes rehearsal space, storage, a separate lobby, and 7 sound-proof rooms. The program has 7 regular, part-time, contracted staff members and many volunteer staff, especially for the shows that are produced, and its teachers are described as highly skilled and experienced in the performing arts, each with different and varied talents. Center Stage Kids invites performers in Grades 4–12 to join its summer camp and organizes students into classes based on ages ranging from 5 to 18. Its mission statement says that Center Stage Kids nurtures the artistic soul in young performers, teaches the art and craft of musical theater to encourage self-confidence, develop discipline, and discover creativity in each student, and treats each class, rehearsal, and production as an opportunity to celebrate skill and delight in their growth as young artists. Many of the students are going or have gone on to study musical theater in college, and Center Stage Kids describes its philosophy and unique learning opportunities as available to the community.
