Monrovia Association of Fine Arts’ mission is to be a resource for the community, local artists, art supporters and students by providing ways to gather, learn, showcase, sell and celebrate fine art. The organization came into existence in the 1950s, organized the first Monrovia art festival in 1964, incorporated as the Monrovia Arts Festival Association in 1965, and in 2012 changed its name to Monrovia Association of Fine Arts. It is a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

In partnership with the City of Monrovia, the organization has established the Artist Alley Gallery in the Monrovia Community Center, and its artists’ work is also shown in a rotating gallery at the Monrovia Historical Museum and at local businesses such as Grey & Cash Restaurant in Old Town. MAFA artists lead kids art workshops for hundreds of underprivileged children at the Foothill Unity Center’s “Back to School” event and at Thanksgiving and December Distribution each year, and they provide art classes for students at Clifton Middle School and Santa Fe Computer Science Magnet School funded by a grant from the Ruth & Joseph C. Reed Foundation for Art. The organization has contributed more than $50,000 for art education for the students of Monrovia since 2004 and has earned grant funding from the Ruth & Joseph C. Reed Foundation for the Arts, the Tournament of Roses Foundation, and 3M Unitek Corporation.

The Santa Family YMCA and other community groups have offered Friday Teen Nights in Library Park during the summer, where MAFA artist instructors led art workshops supported with grant funding from the Tournament of Roses Foundation. MAFA has organized and delivered at-home virtual chalk festivals for families, students, kids, and professional artists, and it offers free monthly workshops open to the public with no experience needed, as well as Art Nights where member artists can display their art at local restaurants. The organization states that it supports Monrovia as a community where people of all backgrounds and identities can share and amplify their stories, art, cultures, and experiences, and it plans to collaborate with local organizations serving communities of color, including city departments, local committees, community groups, and faith-based organizations.
