About
Marin Treks offers live reptiles programs for schools, preschools, scout groups, birthday parties, after school programs, preschool programs, classroom programs, class field trips, home school class visits, and half day natural science camps. Children handle and learn about live reptiles such as leopard geckos, crested geckos, tree frogs, ball pythons, corn snakes, tortoises, and more. The program also offers reptile birthday parties that can be held at a home or a local park or recreation center.
• Ages: 3–14 years old
• Schedule: Reptile birthday parties are offered on Friday evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays, and half day camps run whenever children are on vacation from school, including Thanksgiving week, Christmas break, February winter break, April spring break, and about 5–6 weeks of summer camp; the provider follows the Novato Unified School District vacation schedule; reptile birthday parties and classroom and scout programs are typically 1 hour.
• Price: Reptile birthday parties cost $325 for the birthday child and up to 12 guests, $15 for each additional guest, and $1.50 per mile for travel outside the Novato San Rafael area; elementary school, preschool, and home school class visits cost $150 for a 1 hour classroom program or $135 for 2 or more class visits on the same day; scout programs cost $150 for a 1 hour program.
Marin Treks was founded in July of 2007 as a family-oriented outdoor science education and adventure company and serves students from preschool to middle school throughout Marin County and Petaluma. The founder, Brian Campopiano (also called Mr. C by the children), began a teaching career in Portland, OR in 1988 and has taught elementary school, environmental education, and summer day camps for children from pre-K through 8th grade, and has led many backpacking and whitewater raft trips. Marin Treks offers award winning natural history school programs and half day camps and uses student volunteers to help run many programs. The organization prefers to handle all program questions and registration via email instead of online registration.
Love and respect for nature and all living creatures is the guiding philosophy of Marin Treks. The mission is to inspire a lifelong love for the outdoors and a basic understanding of the natural phenomena that drive the planet. Each program is designed to give children hands-on fun as they learn about the natural world in a fun, safe, and interactive way and to strengthen the bond between children and the world around them.
