Bay Area Wilderness Training Outdoor Programs

Bay Area Wilderness Training Programs offers overnight camping trips, day hiking trips, and a night hike. The program also includes Discovery Sessions and a tour of the gear library, where leaders can see the equipment available for outdoor trips. Bay Area Wilderness Training Programs trains youth workers and educators on the essential skills to take youth in their communities outdoors and provides leaders with all the gear they need for these trips.

Since 1999, Bay Area Wilderness Training Programs has cultivated equitable access to outdoor experiences for Bay Area communities through a gear library and outdoor leadership training. The program has supported 108,981 youth with gear for outdoor trips and has trained more than 4,200 adult educators to lead adventures. Discovery Sessions are informational and inspirational orientations to Bay Area Wilderness Training Programs.

One participant shared, "My favorite part was the night hike because it was fun. it was peaceful and quiet and you could hear nature." A 6th grader from Ascend Middle School said, "I learned that I really like nature. I changed because I became more responsible. Here, there’s a bunch of good energy, because there’s nothing bad going on, there’s no gunshots – nothing but good old Nature."
