About

Oakland Youth Tennis Programs offers tennis through after-school classes, spring camps, summer camps, and USTA tournaments. The program also includes tennis exhibitions and tennis and non-tennis games as part of its activities.

• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Davie Stadium is open year-round with hours on Monday and Friday from 9 AM to 8 PM, Tuesday through Thursday from 9 AM to 9 PM, and weekends from 8:30 AM to 5 PM.

The program takes place at Davie Tennis Stadium, which has 5 courts that are well maintained and open to the public. Court reservations for tennis courts in Oakland can be made online, and reservations are recommended but not required. The facility may be closed due to inclement weather.

Oakland Youth Tennis Programs is part of a broader set of offerings at Davie Tennis Stadium that also includes adult private lessons and adult group lessons. The staff is described as patient, dedicated, professional, and committed to tennis. Marc Weinstein is referred to as the long-time Oakland Director of Tennis.

At Davie Tennis Stadium, the stated mission is to provide a wide variety of tennis programs for various ages, skills, and interests, with a focus on helping players set and achieve new goals. Mayor John L. Davie and his family gave the former quarry property to the City of Oakland in 1931, after Mayor Davie announced the stadium project idea in 1921.

The Marc Weinstein Tennis Legacy Foundation has been announced to honor the life and legacy of Marc Weinstein, long-time Oakland Director of Tennis. Rally On! is the kickoff event for this foundation and is described as featuring tennis, games, and a gathering to celebrate his life. For the Rally On! event, families are asked to bring a racquet and be ready for tennis and non-tennis games and fun. Rally On! is scheduled for Sunday, October 1, 2023, from 2:00 to about 4:00 PM, with a brief program and tennis exhibition beginning around 3:00 PM.

Testimonials about Davie Tennis Stadium include a statement from Davie regular and Northern California Tennis Hall of Fame inductee Steve Cornell, who calls it “the most gorgeous tennis court in the country” and says people he brings there are awed and never forget it. Another testimonial from retired OUSD principal and Davie regular Jerry Wolfe says that when people ask why he does not join a tennis club, he responds by asking what a private tennis club could have that he does not already have at Davie Tennis Stadium.
