Children’s Fairyland Youth Programs take place at a whimsical 10-acre storybook park designed for families with little ones. The park features famous storybook and fairytale sets, a carousel, and historically included pony rides and a cotton-candy stand. The Storybook Puppet Theater hosts a Puppet Fair celebrating 70 years of puppet shows, and Oakland’s Magic Kitchen is described as Oakland’s most magical cooking show. For Summer Sleepovers, participants are instructed to “Just pack up your posse and gather your gear—we’ll do the rest!”

Children’s Fairyland opened its doors in 1950 and has been enchanting children for more than 70 years, achieving nonprofit status in 1994. The original storybook sets were crafted by architect William Russell Everitt, and the gardens were designed by businessman Arthur Navlet, with some original plantings still thriving today. The organization is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit and remains true to its mission as a magical fantasy world where young children can create, imagine, play, and learn. With the help of the Lake Merritt Breakfast Club and other financial support, 4,000 low-income children attend for free each year, and Fairyland looks forward to a future filled with community support and joy for children. The leadership team includes CEO Kymberly Miller and senior directors Vicky Chen (Education), Nick Mitchell (Facilities), Morgan Rothenbaum (Marketing & Communications), Samuel Aguayo (Operations), Leslie Fay Marks (Philanthropy), and Jessica Martin (Events).
