Children’s Fairyland Programs take place in one of the first parks designed for children and include famous storybook sets and a Children’s Theatre program called “Fairyland Personalities,” which was created in 1956 and is still part of Fairyland’s Children’s Theatre. The park offers a Summer Day Camp, Summer Sleepovers with instructions for families to “just pack up your posse and gather your gear—we’ll do the rest,” Oakland’s Magic Kitchen kid-friendly culinary show, AAPI Heritage Celebration weekends, the circus-themed Fairy Fun Fair event, and the annual fundraising gala “Once Upon a Time at Fairyland.” Children’s Fairyland operates as a nonprofit with financial support that allows 4,000 low-income children to attend for free each year and remains true to its mission as a magical fantasy world where young children can create, imagine, play, and learn. Fairyland opened its doors in 1950, achieved nonprofit status in 1994 with help from the Lake Merritt Breakfast Club, and has been enchanting children for more than 70 years, with original storybook sets crafted by architect William Russell Everitt and gardens designed by businessman Arthur Navlet, including some original plantings still thriving. The park was visited by Walt Disney, who incorporated some ideas into Disneyland. The leadership team includes CEO Kymberly Miller; Senior Director of Education Vicky Chen; Senior Director of Facilities Nick Mitchell; Senior Director of Marketing & Communications Morgan Rothenbaum; Senior Director of Operations Samuel Aguayo; Senior Director of Philanthropy Leslie Fay Marks; and Senior Director of Events Jessica Martin.
