About

Oakland Devo is a middle school adventure mountain biking club where kids go on mountain biking and adventure rides. The program is all about getting riders out on three- to four-hour rides on weekends and on rides during weekdays in the spring. It also offers Fun Rides as part of its activities.

• Ages: 11–14 years old
• Schedule: Three- to four-hour rides on weekends, with additional rides on weekdays in the spring; last rides of the season include May 16 (Adventure Ride Finale TBD) and May 23 (10am–1pm), with all rides scheduled for registered members on TeamSnap

The club was started in 2016 by Morgan Fletcher, who is also known for Oakland Composite. Oakland Devo states that “Devo” stands for Development and that its mission is to get more kids on bikes, focusing on mountain biking because it is safe and fun. The mission also includes getting kids outside to exercise, explore, and learn about the natural world, giving kids who do not participate in sports a chance to try this activity, teaching the basic physical skill of riding a bike for safety, fun, and confidence, and coaching kids to foster strong minds, bodies, and character with the hope of producing lifetime riders. The club notes that rides are for fun, not competition, and that it strives to give all kids a chance to experience the sport regardless of income, offering loaner bikes or gear and a Pathfinders Scholarship for children who need them. The club comprises girls and boys who live in and attend public and private middle schools in Oakland and surrounding areas, and it describes a strong and growing mountain bike culture among Oakland youth, including competitive high school teams such as Oakland Composite, Oakland Tech, Skyline High, Piedmont High, and Bishop O’Dowd, many of them fed by past Oakland Devo riders. Oakland Devo states that new registration for the 2026 season is closed, that the 2026 season schedule is available on the Registration Page and Calendar, and that registration and Fun Rides for the 2026 season will start in the fall, with a mailing list available for families who want updates and notifications when they launch.
