About

GirlVentures Programs offers kayak tours, sea kayaking expeditions, and opportunities to paddle on Tomales Bay. The program also includes multi-day backpacking expeditions and a 10-day, 9-night kayak-based expedition on Tomales Bay. All gear, food, transportation, and free high-quality clothing and equipment are provided for each participant, and no prior experience is necessary to take part.

• Ages: 12–14 years old
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9am to 5pm, with a 10-day, 9-night expedition format
• Price: The true cost per youth to participate in a summer expedition is $5000/youth. Program cost uses a range of sliding scale options. Payments can be made in 1 installment or in 3 monthly installments. Fee waivers are available on a limited basis.

GirlVentures Programs serves girls and gender non-conforming youth entering 7th and 8th grade, including gender expansive youth such as cis girls, trans youth, non-binary youth, gender non-conforming youth, gender queer youth, and any girl-identified youth. GirlVentures’ programs explore identity, social justice, leadership, health, and the environment, and focus on nurturing girls’ self-esteem and resilience as they develop into empathetic, confident conservationists and allies. As a nonprofit organization, GirlVentures is dedicated to providing equitable access to outdoor education and practices radical inclusion through organizational practices that promote inclusion, cultural humility, and more equitable distribution of resources.

Instructors are paid, WFR certified professional youth workers and educators. The leadership team includes Keri Butkevich, MA, CFRE as Executive Director; Tryka Orbin D Tryka as Program Director; and Erin Teutschel as Program Manager/GCO Coordinator. Keri Butkevich holds a Master’s degree in Voice from San Jose State University, a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and an advanced Certified Fund Raising Executive certification. Erin Teutschel holds a Bachelor of Arts in Adventure Education and Human Development from Prescott College.

A participant described GirlVentures as a community that teaches girls to be who they want to be, and to have the courage to do whatever they set their minds to do.
