About
The Oceanside Yacht Club Junior Program / Junior Learn to Sail offers Junior Learn to Sail as part of a summer camp that runs weekly to several weeks, along with junior sailing and social activities. The broader club activities connected with the program include racing, charity regattas, a Holiday Parade of Lights, the Yankee Doodle Dingy Parade, Harbor Day's event, parties and dances, cruising trips to other clubs, an Easter egg hunt, Monday Night Football, dinner every Friday and Saturday night, and summer camp. Programs stress water and boating safety as well as sailing technique through classroom and on-the-water instruction.
• Ages: 8–18 years old
• Schedule: Junior Learn to Sail is offered as a weekly to several weeks’ summer camp
Junior and Adult Learn to Sail programs include classroom and on-the-water instruction from an ASA certified sailing instructor, and instruction is provided by an ASA certified sailing instructor. The Oceanside Yacht Club Junior Program is part of a private club where membership does not require owning a boat. The club was formed in 1963 and states its mission as “Inspiring seamanship through the Corinthian spirit.” Oceanside Yacht Club is a member of the Southern California Yachting Association. Several programs do not require membership and are offered in hopes that others will learn to enjoy the sea.
In conjunction with the Oceanside Harbor District, Oceanside Yacht Club sponsors the annual Holiday Parade of Lights, puts on the Yankee Doodle Dingy Parade on the 4th of July, and participates and helps in the city's Harbor Day's event. Oceanside Yacht Club promotes and hosts two Charity Regattas in which Elizabeth Hospice Organization and Women’s Resource Center are the recipients of the proceeds, and community involvement includes fundraisers supporting Elizabeth Hospice, the Women’s Resource Center and Stand-up for Kids. The club also notes a “Funraising” program that does fun-raising as well as fund-raising.
Parents have shared comments such as “Great club, great people!” from Mark Mallaby and “Wonderful and kind staff! Thank you so much for your warm welcoming at 8:30 pm Sunday night right before you closed. Joe was the bomb!! We will be back soon. New bar is gorgeous!!!” from Barbara Contreras. Other feedback includes “Great place to spend an afternoon visiting with friends, enjoying the fabulous view from the porch, or cheering for your favorite team!” from Pat Perry-Gadbois, and “Love this place. All the crew is welcoming and eager to make it a great time. This atmosphere is easy and laid back, not all all stuffy and pretentious. A nice place to enjoy a wonder evening! Love me the OYC!” from Dana Omiela. David Albert describes OYC as “the friendliest place on the West Coast” and notes that “you don't have to own a boat to be a member.”
