Holy Shepherd Community Preschool

Holy Shepherd Community Preschool uses a teacher-guided, child-driven curriculum that is based on play. The program focuses on curiosity, creativity, and fun in small, loving classrooms, with an emphasis on conflict resolution and kindness.

• Ages: 18 months–5 years old
• Schedule: Flexible scheduling with early drop-off, a morning program, Lunch Bunch, Extended Day, Full Day options, and a Summer Session for enrolled students

At Holy Shepherd Community Preschool, the stated mission is that the best learning happens through play, and that children ages 18 months through kindergarten entry learn in small, loving classrooms where every child is truly known. The program describes a warm, nurturing environment where curiosity is celebrated and a lifelong love of learning begins.

The leadership team includes Executive Director Claire Petersen; Ms. Amanda, Assistant Director and Program Lead for the 4’s class; Ms. Amy, Assistant Director; and Ms. Amber, Office Manager. Claire Petersen has a BA in Communications and over 30 units of early childhood education course work. Ms. Amanda has worked in early childhood education for over 15 years. Ms. Amy has a BA in Liberal Studies, a Masters of Teaching, and has been working in education for over 15 years.

Holy Shepherd Community Preschool operates under License #073400100. Executive Director Claire Petersen is a longtime Orinda resident who has held volunteer roles such as organizing the Wagner Ranch Round Up and serving as the Orinda Park Pool swim team director for multiple years.
