About
thewaveprogram (The WAVE Program) is a two-week summer day camp that includes activities such as basketball, swimming, wrestling, baseball/softball, soccer, tennis, dance, art, volleyball, lacrosse, cornhole, water polo, cheerleading, and culinary. The program also offers robotics, math, and English activities, along with discussions about general fitness, health, and nutrition, and includes swim lessons. Each day features five periods with a total of 10 activities, and there are two groups that alternate so each camper has two days per sport.

• Schedule: Two-week summer day camp, Monday through Thursday, with daily drop-off at 9:00 a.m. and pick-up by 4:00 p.m.
thewaveprogram (TWP) was established in 2016 as a 501 (c) (3) public-funded charity foundation and opened in the summer of 2017. It is a two-week summer day camp for girls and boys going into 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th grade, and registration beginning January 1, 2026 is open to 4th–7th graders residing in Pacific Grove who attend Forest Grove or Robert Down Elementary or Pacific Grove Middle School, or who live within the PGUSD boundaries. The primary goal of TWP is to introduce the youth of Pacific Grove to the wide range of extracurricular activities offered by the Pacific Grove United School District, including team sports, individual sports, and arts electives such as art, dance, and music, as well as education, health, nutrition, and fitness. The program is provided without cost to this age group. The success of thewaveprogram is attributed to the Professional Head Coaches at Pacific Grove High School, with activities and classes led by PGHS teachers and coaches, and supported by PGHS student counselors, student-athlete volunteers, and community volunteers. Darryl Smith serves as Co-Founder and Executive Director, and Mountain Mike's Pizza of Pacific Grove has donated pizza to the program each year for nine years.
