About
TinkerLab Schoolhouse is an online kids creativity and art club where children take part in process art, drawing, painting, and STEAM activities. The program functions as an online art studio for little makers and offers weekly art plans for families and teachers, along with art experiments that spark creativity. It also provides tips and resources for educators and parents, free guides to start a creative journey, and pick-a-card creative prompts that are free to download.
• Ages: 3–12 years old
TinkerLab Schoolhouse’s activities are described as fun for kids, child-led, open-ended, process-driven, and tested by kids repeatedly, and makers can enter at all levels of curiosity and expertise with the expectation that everyone should feel comfortable creating. The program is part of TinkerLab, a creative studio whose mission is to spark curiosity and a love for art through hands-on making, and to inspire creativity and experimentation in makers and artists of all ages, transforming everyday moments into creative adventures. TinkerLab emerged in 2010 under the leadership of founder Rachelle, who studied costume design at UCLA, became a K–8 art teacher, pursued a master’s in art education at Harvard, taught art in schools and art museums, and served as a Resident Fellow in a Stanford dorm. TinkerLab has been featured in Real Simple magazine, Family Fun magazine, Publisher’s Weekly, Americans for the Arts, the Washington Post, Visual Thinking Strategies, PBS Parents, Apartment Therapy, ABC Bay Area Life, Kiwi Co, Baby Center, and Palo Alto Online. TinkerLab acknowledges that it operates on ancestral Ohlone land, pays respects to Ohlone elders past, present, and future, recognizes the land’s significance for Ohlone people, and makes annual donations to support Ohlone communities. One parent testimonial notes that TinkerLab offers a variety of fun activities ranging from process art, drawing, painting, and STEAM, and describes the activities as simple, fun, stress free, short and sweet, and easy to set up. Another testimonial states that a family chose TinkerLab for the wide spectrum of activities, including the calendar, videos, and online availability, and highlights that this format fits a work schedule that makes daytime classes difficult.
