About
Musical Theater Boot Camp is a two-week program where participants receive acting, singing, and dancing instruction. The program includes monologue and song coaching, cold readings, mock dance calls, and rehearsing and performing a musical revue. Participants also take part in workshops with guest artists and industry professionals, expand their knowledge of musical theater history, build repertoire, and learn about career paths and training options after high school.

• Schedule: Two-week session, July 20–July 31, 2026, Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–3:30 PM, with a final performance on July 31 at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM

Musical Theater Boot Camp is an audition-only program designed for serious high school performers and requires a video audition that includes a personal introduction, a 32-bar cut of a song from a musical, and a 1-minute cut of a monologue from a published play in one video, which can be edited together. An optional 30–90 second dance clip may also be submitted and can come from a recital, competition, production, or something filmed at home or at school. Applicants are instructed to follow all posted time limits and, for the song portion, to sing along to accompaniment or a karaoke track rather than tracks with vocals when possible. A limited number of partial scholarships are available for Summer Camps, and scholarship applications for Musical Theater Boot Camp are reviewed only after the applicant has submitted their audition.
The program’s teaching artists include Armenian-American performer, choreographer, and educator Taleen Shrikian, who holds a BA in Theatre Arts and a Minor in Education from Boston College and has performance credits that include the National Tour of Evita, regional productions such as Grease, The Wizard of Oz, Saturday Night Fever, Kinky Boots, Mamma Mia, West Side Story, Legally Blonde, Cabaret, In the Heights, The Madwoman of Chaillot, A Christmas Carol ’15–’19, an episode of Nickelodeon’s “The Thundermans,” and the short film “Give Me an A,” and who has taught dance and theatre and choreographed over 25 productions at the middle school, high school, and college levels. Faculty also includes Will Pellegrini, who holds a BA in Theater from UCLA and an MFA in Directing from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, has worked in a variety of roles on numerous TV shows including Fox’s Glee, has directed and designed at LA theaters such as The Actors’ Gang and Theater of NOTE, and serves as adjunct faculty at East LA College, Mt. San Antonio College, and Ventura College teaching Acting, Musical Theater, Stagecraft, and Directing. Adam McDonald, who has Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in classical piano performance from Iowa State University and The Boston Conservatory, has been part of five national tours including eight years with WICKED where he became music director, and has continued theater work at venues such as The Pasadena Playhouse, The Pantages, La Mirada Theatre, Pageant of the Masters, and as rehearsal accompanist for Lion King Live at the Hollywood Bowl, is also part of the instructional team.
Pasadena Playhouse, founded in 1917, is the official State Theater of California and the recipient of the 2023 Regional Theatre Tony Award.
