Whitley Ballet School offers children and adult classes in ballet, jazz, and tap dance. Their teachers take a fun and caring approach to developing sound classical ballet technique and a love of dance in the early years, and they specialize in helping shy dancers gain confidence. Their ballet classes follow the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus, and they offer Royal Academy of Dance examinations as part of the class program, with a 100% pass rate in these examinations. Their ballet classes aim to instill a lifelong love of dance and movement, and their teaching philosophy centers around building confidence and inspiring creativity while focusing on creating a safe, nurturing environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and challenging themselves. They try to keep classes small and personal, and classes are available online via Zoom if requested.
Private lessons at Whitley Ballet School include analysis and comprehension of various methods of training such as Cecchetti, Vaganova, RAD, French/POB, and Bournonville, with emphasis on understanding their historical and contextual significance. All classes require registration prior to joining, and for all inquiries and registration, contact is by email only, with no phone calls, to avoid disturbing students’ learning and to keep costs down for parents. Private lessons can be delivered online via Zoom or in-person on a limited schedule. In December 2023 they began work on opening their shop and pointe shoe fitting service, Ballet Corner.
In January 2023 Whitley Ballet School celebrated 10 years of dancing. The teacher is referred to as Miss Natalie and Ms. Natalie. According to one Yelp review, “Ms.Natalie is an awesome teacher. She is patient and very creative. She’s not pushy. She allows the kids to be kids all the while learning and learning to love dance.” Another Yelp review states, “Best Ballet school ever!! Miss Natalie is a very kind and warm teacher. She loves to teach and the students feel it. Our child had learned so much and is very happy, she can not even consider going to another academy. If you are looking for a great place for your kids to learn and feel confident as well as encourage this is the best one.” A third Yelp review says, “My daughter has been to Miss Natalie’s class for a whole year now. She loves it. Actually we both love the class and Miss Natalie. The class’s being fun. I didn’t want to ruin her passion so I intentionally avoided those studios with very strict training tendencies, whereas Miss Natalie is super nice and good with kids. All the kids love her. She does a lot of demonstrations and the way she moves is already a very good demonstration of delicate ballerina. I think at such early age, the taste and love for he art is much more important than mere techniques. Miss Natalie’s class is very nourishing to the little ones!”
