About
Christ the King CYO Basketball is a youth basketball program where participants play and practice basketball. The program uses Christ The King Gym for its basketball activities.
• Ages: 8–13 years old
With more than a 30 year history, the Christ the King CYO basketball program has helped nearly 10,000 children stay active in after school activities. Christ the King as a parish sponsors Catholic Youth Organization as one dimension of its total youth ministry experience. The program’s stated mission is to encourage community relationships and to instill Christian attitudes and responsibilities among its participants, while running a competitive basketball program at all ages without focusing on counting wins or losses. Its priority is described as encouraging strong community and Christian value, while building sportsmanship, team commitment, great attitude, and sport competency, and fostering a spirit of loyalty and sportsmanship among participating coaches, staff, families, and teams.
Registration for the 2026–2027 basketball season is open to boys and girls in grades 3–8, with player registration and coaches registration scheduled to open on June 1, 2026. To qualify, participants must either be current Christ the King Catholic School students, current Christ the King Religious Education participants (up to grade 5 only), or live within Christ the King Parish. With these stated values, the Christ the King CYO basketball program is described as having an unmatched history of success on the floor and in the community and is widely considered one of the largest non-profit youth basketball programs in Contra Costa County. New coaches who were not registered in the prior season are required to complete Virtus Training to meet Oakland Diocese requirements for clearance for the upcoming season.
