Most Leader in Training participants can expect at least two weeks of volunteering, must commit to at least two consecutive weeks during June–July, and have volunteer opportunities in Drama Camp, Gingerbread Preschool Summer Camp, Ridge Runners, and Summer Day Camp. Students in the Leader in Training program must apply, attend orientation, be fingerprinted, attend an in-person orientation in April, attend a summer training, and then have the opportunity to volunteer during the summer and job shadow and gain experience within the City of Pleasanton. The 2026 Leader in Training Program application opens on February 1st and closes on March 20th.

Youth in Government Day is an opportunity just for high school students and is a joint effort between the City of Pleasanton and Pleasanton Unified School District. During Youth in Government Day, students spend the morning shadowing city or school district staff, at lunch they chat with staff about their education and career paths, and in the afternoon they participate in a mock City Council experience where they choose to either work on a mock project or act as a city council member. Youth in Government Day is described as an insightful day that deepens understanding of civic processes and decision-making.

The Tri-Valley Teen Job Fair is a collaborative effort between the cities of Pleasanton, Danville, Dublin, San Ramon, and the San Ramon/Dublin Women’s Club, and is a FREE event where high school students meet and greet employers who are hiring. At the fair, students can attend workshops to build resumes, learn interview techniques, and participate in a mock interview, and attendees must bring their high school ID.
