About
Firehouse Arts Center Youth & Teen Programs include youth theater classes, camps, and performances, youth music programs, and art classes and camps. Participants take part in activities such as performing a mixture of popular and original works on the Firehouse and Amador stage, shows featuring original songs and covers of popular songs, and a cabaret section performing classic and contemporary musical theater hits. Art offerings include drawing, painting, and sculpting.
Youth theater activities are taught, directed, and produced by theater professionals. The Firehouse Arts Center is designed to promote participation in recreational experiences as they relate to the arts. The Pleasanton Youth Theater Company is the culmination of over a decade of Summer Drama Camps, and the Harrington Gallery inside the Firehouse Arts Center maintains a rotating schedule of art installations featuring a variety of media, themes, and styles. The Firehouse Arts Center includes green building components such as extensive use of recycled materials, solar panels that supply 15% of the building’s electricity needs, sculptural bicycle racks, and high efficiency climate controls, and its theater features flexible seating that can be configured for proscenium, thrust, arena, and cabaret staging. The facility’s design incorporates a clear visual demarcation between new construction and the preserved historic edifice, and it is described as serving as an inviting beacon that strengthens community image and sense of place.
