About
Mountain Camp is a co-ed summer resident camp for campers entering 2nd–12th grades. The program follows a minimal technology, non-competitive approach and focuses on getting campers outside, actively creating, playing, and learning lifelong outdoor skills.
• Ages: 7–17 years old
Mountain Camp states that camp is outstanding at teaching the values of self-reliance and resourcefulness, and that it facilitates relationships with a focus on collaboration and communication. The program description notes that it includes opportunities for creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking, exploration, play, and adventure, and refers to these as Social Emotional Learning skills that educational experts believe are essential for future success. Mountain Camp states that it views camp as critical to the education and development of children and as a “classroom” for learning these skills, with the goal that campers’ experiences, friendships, and laughter stay with them for the rest of their lives. Camp tours are available any Sunday during the summer season that falls between sessions, and tours typically last 30 to 45 minutes. A parent testimonial reports that their children look forward to returning for four weeks every summer, come home happier and more self-assured than when they left, and that the parent appreciates that the children are getting a taste of independence and figuring out their own identity in what the parent describes as a safe, nurturing environment.
