Sly Park Environmental Education Center offers students the chance to hike through lush forests, conduct hands-on experiments in bubbling streams, and gaze at the star-filled night sky. The program also includes a Photo Tour slide show, time for students identifying native plants, and opportunities for challenging themselves on an indoor climbing wall. Visiting students reside at Sly Park for three, four, or five days.

Since 1970, this outdoor education center has transformed the lives of K-12 students and has been at the forefront of outdoor education for over 50 years. Credentialed teachers offer lessons and hands-on experiences that use the Science 5E Instructional model with live instruction, hyper-docs, videos, and digital resources, along with short self-guided activities between lessons called Home Investigations. Sly Park Environmental Education Center cultivates environmental literacy through experiential and place-based learning, and staff support the academic, social and emotional growth of participants in ways that enrich understanding of California's Next Generation Science Standards and Environmental Principles & Concepts.
As an accredited California Resident Outdoor Learning Center, Sly Park Environmental Education Center aligns its lessons with California Next Generation Science Standards and Environmental Principles & Concepts, and its programs are certified by the California Outdoor School Association. The program was founded through a partnership between the U.S. Forest Service and the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) and is a permittee of the Eldorado National Forest. Sly Park Director Jeremy Meyers leads the center, which has a non-discrimination policy on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability.
