Since 1970, Sly Park Environmental Education Center has been at the forefront of outdoor education for over 50 years. Credentialed teachers offer lessons and hands-on experiences. The program’s mission is to cultivate environmental literacy through experiential and place-based learning, and staff support the academic, social, and emotional growth of participants in ways that enrich understanding of California's Next Generation Science Standards and Environmental Principles & Concepts.

Sly Park Environmental Education Center was founded through a partnership between the U.S. Forest Service and the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) and is a permittee of the Eldorado National Forest. As an accredited California Resident Outdoor Learning Center, its programs align with California Next Generation Science Standards and California’s Environmental Principles and Concepts and are certified by the California Outdoor School Association. Lessons are supported with a Science 5E Instructional model that uses live instruction, hyper-docs, videos, and digital resources, and include short self-guided activities between lessons known as Home Investigations. The program states that it is more than a field trip and is described as a transformative experience, and it does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability. Families can stay connected with Sly Park Environmental Education Center through Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
