About
The Redwood City Child Development Program includes arts and crafts projects, free play, and the use of small manipulative toys. The program also includes self-help activities and daily exercise, along with parent workshops, informational meetings, social events, and fundraisers.
• Ages: 1–5 years old
Established in 1985, the Redwood City Child Development Program is a private, non-profit child development and preschool program. It is licensed by the State of California, Department of Social Services, to provide educational services for children ages 1 to 5. The program is an early learning center primarily serving low income families and has policies that encourage healthy eating habits and teach the importance of good nutrition and daily exercise.
The mission of the Redwood City Child Development Program is to provide a comprehensive education program supporting children’s participation in their families, schools, and communities, and to provide a safe, healthy, child-centered learning environment based on the developmental needs of children. The mission also includes focusing on the emotional, social, cognitive, and physical needs of every child as an individual and as a member of the community, and encouraging families and the community to take an active role in children’s learning and development.
The program has a Parent Advisory Council (PAC), which is a group of parents who meet monthly to provide support and advice to one another and to the program. The PAC organizes several social events and fundraisers throughout the year. Staff support parents with referrals to community agencies for child care, speech and language services, family counseling, immigration, food programs, housing, employment, and job training, and make referrals to the Golden Gate Regional Center for speech services. The program shares a location and relationship with the Fair Oaks Community Center.
Program testimonials describe children who have attended as infants and toddlers through preschool, including children whose families received free care, scholarships, or referrals for speech therapy and other services. In these testimonials, parents and caregivers report children progressing to local kindergarten, receiving speech therapy through the Golden Gate Regional Center, and accessing services through the Fair Oaks Community Center during difficult family times.
