About
Sequoia Children's Center offers quality early education from cradle to kindergarten within a planned curriculum that is developed within a play-based framework. The program includes infant care in the Ladybugs and Butterflies groups, toddler care in the Hummingbirds group, and preschool and pre-kindergarten classrooms, with all materials, furnishings, and practices considered in the creation of developmentally appropriate classrooms serving children from 5 months to 5 years of age. Parent-teacher partnerships include daily reports and “Happy Moments” sent to parents’ mobile phones, and multiple planned events and outings occur throughout the year for parents to join in and to enhance community connections.
• Ages: 5 months–5 years 9 months
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–5:45 PM
• Price: $85 Off Registration
Infant care is offered for Ladybugs and Butterflies from 5 months to 21 months, toddler care for Hummingbirds from 20.5+ months to 28+ months, and preschool and pre-kindergarten for children from 28 months to 5 years 9 months. Part-time and full-time options are available for toddlers ages 13 months to 21 months. Enrollment is year-round based on space availability and children aging out and moving up to the next level classrooms, with spaces for infants usually filled several months in advance and spaces for toddlers through preschool usually filled one or two months in advance.
Sequoia Children's Center is a non-religious program of the First United Methodist Church of Redwood City. The program states that stability of care is of paramount concern to working parents and notes that the center provides redundancy of providers to cover teacher break times and teacher absences, while still assigning primary caregivers in every classroom. The center describes its staff as terrific teachers with low staff turnover, carefully selected for their training as well as their caring nature.
The stated mission is to support learning through play and to be responsive to the needs and interests of each child at each stage of development, recognizing children as unique individuals who are nurtured and educated with love, respect, dignity, and joy. The program notes that the rich diversity of its community mirrors that of the larger community, with various cultures and family structures, and describes this diversity as a strength worth celebrating. Sequoia Children's Center holds accreditation by NAEYC, which it describes as its award, based on having demonstrated rigorous program evaluation and implementation of the latest research in care and early learning.
