About
Sequoia Children's Center offers quality early education from cradle to kindergarten within developmentally appropriate classrooms serving children from 5 months to 5+ years of age. The planned curriculum is developed within a play-based framework, and the educational framework includes Baby Signs & LearningGames, Creative Curriculum, and HighScope Curriculum. Programs focus on social-emotional growth, cognitive and language skills, fine and gross motor skills, and self-help and independence building.
• Ages: 5 months–5+ years old
• Schedule: Open Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–5:45 PM
Sequoia Children's Center includes an Infant Care program for children 5 months to 21 months, a Toddler Care program for children 20.5+ months to 28+ months, and a Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten program for children 28 months to 5 years 9 months. Enrollment is year-round based on space availability and children aging out and moving up to the next level classrooms, with spaces for infants usually filled several months in advance and spaces for toddlers through preschool usually filled one or two months in advance. Parent-teacher partnerships include daily reports and “Happy Moments” sent to parents’ mobile phones, and multiple planned events and outings occur throughout the year for parents to join in and enhance community connections.
Sequoia Children's Center is a non-religious program of the First United Methodist Church of Redwood City and holds accreditation by the NAEYC. The program states that it believes in learning through play and in being responsive to the needs and interests of each child at each stage of development, and that children are to be recognized as unique individuals, nurtured and educated with love, respect, dignity, and joy. Staff are described as terrific teachers with low staff turnover, carefully selected for their training as well as their caring nature, and the program emphasizes stability of care with redundancy of providers to cover teacher break times and absences while assigning primary caregivers in every classroom. The rich diversity of the community includes various cultures and family structures, and this diversity is described as a strength worth celebrating.
